A PORTRAIT of RobertBurns's son is among a cache of Burns family heirlooms rediscoveredafter 70 years, the National Trust for Scotland said yesterday. Thepainting, a letter and other items were found in boxes discovered inthe eaves of the Burns Cottage Museum in Alloway, Ayrshire.
Therelics were sold to the museum in the 1930s by the Bard'sgreat-granddaughter. They were found as renovation work is carried outby the NTS.
Curators said they will provide new insight into thepoet's family when they go on display at the Robert Burns BirthplaceMuseum, set to open next year.
The portrait is of James Glencairn Burns, the poet's eighth son, one of only three sons to survive into adulthood.
