The Rt Burns Club is pleased to announce that on January 25th, 2013 in conjunction with Celts Celebrate will present an evening totally devoted to the songs of Robert Burns.  The famous Troy Music Hall in Troy New York, known around the world for its acoustics will be the venue for the event.  And there will be plenty of surprises.  The Aoede Consort, 26 professional singers will perform songs well known and not so famous.  An a-cappella group the Aoede Consort recently had its world debut at Carnegie Hall in New York City.  And here is the surprise, as many of you know, Beethoven put a good number of Burns songs to new transcriptions for piano, violin, voice and viola. We have discovered a very little known Beethoven transcription of a Burns song that has not been played for over 100 years.  It is beautiful and will be performed by Vladimir Pleshakov, world famous pianist.  In addition our very own Mike Olglree will represnt the spirit of Robert Burns to help guide us through the inspriation for many of the Immortal Bards tunes.   But wait there is more.  The proceeds from the concert will go to promoting Robert Burns around New York State and an invitational competition for college level musicians to find a poem that has never been put to music and create a new composition.  The winner will receive a sizable grant as will the music department of the winners school. It is the hope of the RT Burns Club that the resulting DVD, CD and transcriptions of his songs for 26 voices will inspire others to research and begin to understand the power of Mr. Burns words.  More to come. Look for us soon on Kickstarer as we raise the funds.  Check out the Aoede Consort at www.aoedeconsort.org and The Troy Music Hall at www.troymusichall.org for some previews.  Let us know what you think of this project and why not suggest your favorite Burns song and tell us what it means to you.  Slange Anne Macpherson, Director P.R.
